A new division dedicated to boats whose series’ first launch predates 1990. The new feature officially enters the program of the 2026 CentoMiglia del Garda.
A new division is joining the 76th International CentoMiglia del Garda, scheduled for September 5-6, 2026: the Organizing Committee of the Circolo Vela Gargnano has established the ORC Classic division, introducing a specific ranking for boats belonging to a generation that has marked an important part of sailing history.
“The new feature was formalized with Notice to Competitors No. 01 of August 10, supplementing point 4.1 of the Notice of Race. All boats that comply with what is already established under point 4.1 of the Notice of Race, and whose series’ first launch date predates 1990, may fall within the ORC Classic category. This is therefore a classification built on a precise technical criterion, which also opens up the CentoMiglia to numerous production boats designed and built before the 1990s, including many boats belonging to sailing’s historic IOR era, which are still present and active on race courses today,” explained Raffaele Valsecchi, the Italian Sailing Federation’s XIV Zone Councillor delegated to offshore sailing. Excluded from the category are boats belonging to one-design classes recognized by the Italian Sailing Federation or World Sailing. Also excluded, as established by the Notice to Competitors, are boats equipped with sliding/movable outriggers (“terrazze”), trapezes, foils and canting ballast. The introduction of the new division allows the CentoMiglia to bring together, alongside more modern boats, an important part of sailing’s design and sporting history. Hulls with instantly recognizable lines and boats that retain a timeless appeal will thus be able to take on Lake Garda within their own division, while the event’s technical and competitive character remains fully intact, and they will still be able to compete, like all other entrants, for the Trofeo Bettoni and thus for the CentoMiglia overall.
