The regatta, organized by Circolo Vela Gargnano with the technical support of the XIV Zone Committee of the Italian Sailing Federation, confirms the two-day format, introduces some course novelties, and features corrected time calculation using Time on Time to offer better balance even for medium-small boats.
Gargnano, April 8, 2026 – The pre-Notice of Race for the 76th CentoMiglia Internazionale del Garda has been published. The historic regatta, organized by Circolo Vela Gargnano delegated by the Italian Sailing Federation, is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6, 2026. This is the first official step opening the path to a new edition of the lake’s iconic regatta, confirmed again this year over two days and built, as per tradition, through the collaboration of numerous sailing clubs and organizations of Lake Garda, involving Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino.
Also this year, the event is made possible thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Gargnano (Department of Commerce, Sport and Tourism, and Department of Culture), Pro Loco Gargnano, This is Gargnano, and the support of prestigious official partners. The main sponsor of the event is Fineco, one of Europe’s leading fintech banks. Joining the CentoMiglia are also Cantiere del Pardo, Consorzio Valtènesi, Acqua Tavina, Hotel Eala My Lakeside Dream, and Carolina Zani Melanoma Foundation—entities that share the values of excellence, innovation, and connection with the territory promoted by the CentoMiglia.
The 76th CentoMiglia confirms a formula that combines historical identity with technical updates. Among the most significant novelties of 2026 are some course updates: on the Veronese side, the mark will no longer be in Brenzone, but in Malcesine, in the Navene area, with the collaboration of Fraglia Vela Malcesine. In Trentino, there will be two marks placed about half a mile apart—one in front of Circolo Surf Torbole and one in front of Circolo Vela Torbole—with positioning managed by Consorzio Garda Trentino Vela. On the lower lake, the passage to Desenzano is confirmed, where the mark will be managed, as in previous years, by Fraglia Vela Desenzano in collaboration with Gruppo Nautico Dielleffe, Lega Navale Italiana section of Brescia Desenzano, and Nauticlub Moniga.
From a sporting perspective, the 2026 edition continues along the path drawn last year, when the CentoMiglia introduced rankings based on the ORC rating system. However, this year introduces an important update to the corrected time calculation system. The rankings for the individual races will be compiled using the ORC All Purpose Time on Time method, rather than the All Purpose Time on Distance coefficient. This choice is designed to keep the ranking open until the arrival of the last boats, providing better chances of a result for medium-small boats, while acknowledging that, as always, the wind and lake conditions will ultimately dictate the concrete balance among different types of boats.
Entries will open on April 15 and remain open until September 1, 2026. The entry will be single and valid for both races: the Trofeo Gargnano on Saturday, September 5, and the Trofeo Gorla on Sunday, September 6. Among the novelties introduced by the pre-Notice of Race is a discounted entry fee reserved for Double-Handed boats (two-person crews), confirming the desire to make participation even more accessible. The pre-Notice of Race also confirms the general prize allocation. Line honours will be awarded for the Trofeo Gargnano and the Trofeo Gorla, reserved for the first boat to cross the finish line in real time. The Trofeo Bettoni will go to the overall winner of the 76th CentoMiglia, determined by the final ORC Overall ranking resulting from the sum of the points of the two races in corrected time. A dedicated ORC Double-Handed ranking is also planned, whose winner will be awarded the Trofeo Beppe Croce.

But which boats will compete for the final victory? Last year Carpediem Cube, a Psaros 33 owned by Luc Munier, won the final ORC Overall ranking. Behind her came Topas Squirt, a Cape 31 owned by Harald Brüning and winner of Sunday’s Trofeo Gorla, while Evanesse, a Psaros 33 owned by Patrik Herzig, closed the final podium in third place. The 2025 overall ranking therefore already recounts a very interesting challenge between the fast Swiss Psaros 33s and the Cape 31, a model from the South African shipyard that proved it could immediately be a protagonist on Lake Garda.
If the presence of Cape 31s were to grow in 2026, we could witness a new battle between highly performing hulls, but the picture could be even broader and more interesting. Indeed, there are the modified Asso 99s, which already in the last edition finished just off the podium with Idefix, and could once again insert themselves into the fight for the top. Expectations are also high for some Melges 24s, a class that could show up at the start with interesting numbers, and for the always insidious Melges 32s, boats that in ORC often know how to express very competitive potential.
Another theme to follow with great attention will be that of boats in Double-Handed configuration. Among these could be the modified Protagonist Spirito Libero, which this year won the Trofeo Bianchi overall in Gargnano. Offshore sailing has already demonstrated how crews of just two people can be competitive even at the highest levels, and in this sense, the success of Min River at the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, the first double-handed crew to win the Tattersall Cup, represents a very significant benchmark.
Lake Garda, after all, has always known how to reshuffle the deck. And again in 2026, the most representative classes of the lake, from the Asso 99s to the Dolphin 81s, together with other smaller hulls with good performance, will still be able to have their say, also thanks to the new ORC All Purpose Time on Time criterion chosen for this edition.
The publication of the pre-Notice of Race therefore represents the first concrete step towards an edition that aims to further strengthen the unique character of the CentoMiglia. A regatta capable of involving the entire Lake Garda, of uniting different clubs, territories, and organizational skills, and at the same time of continuing to evolve, both technically and in terms of participation. In the name of a very strong tradition that nevertheless continues to look forward.
