Hello lago di Garda, hello circolo vela
well, what can i say about Cento 2023 !
Of course great conditions, good wind, nice weather, so from a organisers point of view it was perfect, thank you !
About racing i can only speak about monohulls which is our world
There was Eric Monnin with his monofoil, from Swiss Germany, actually the best flying lake monohull in the world
And there was August, from Austria, with his pimped up Quant30 or shall i say super doped 49er, unjustly named cold duck. The cold duck was on fire in all conditions, August you should rename your boat ” hot beast”
And there was us the QFX a 35 footer designed to do well without wind and to do even better with big wind, being on foils
The three boats had good close and fantastic and thrilling racing
Because of our capacities to foil or skim (and the absence of Liberas) the 3 of us sailed quit ahead of the pack, so it was a drag race between the 3 of us.
Even though the 3 boats are totally different we had similaire performances sailing within 500 m beating upwind and flying downwind
unfortunately for our lack of crew handling (NB average crew age 60 ) we trailed always the 2 others for 200 meters
August won both races thanks to their excellent boat handling, well done dam Austrians, Eric the wizard second, and we the old farts third
But we will be back with the knives in our mouths to win the monohulls this year
Thank you circolo vela for this great event
cheers thomas
